Who will provide my information to the Credit Bureau?

  • It will be mandatory for lenders, including banks, insurance companies, financial and corporate service providers, credit unions and the Bahamas Mortgage Corporation to transmit your information to the credit bureau. They will not need your consent for this purpose.

  • Other credit providers may be required to submit information to the credit bureau, if designated, via regulations, as credit information providers by the Central Bank. They would include: the utility companies (the Bahamas Telecommunications Company, Cable Bahamas, the Bahamas Electricity Corporation, the Water and Sewerage Corporation); retailers that sell goods on hire purchase, the National Insurance Board, and various public registries (e.g., Supreme Court, National Insurance and Companies registries). Having information from the public registries can assist in verifying the identity of consumers, and data on how persons are paying their utility bills could be used to assess the credit worthiness of small consumers who do not have any credit history.
